| The Arrival
Keep your eye open, because we nearly missed this place. Parking may be a problem, luckily Val (a Chicago native) can seem to park her car in spots that would seem smaller than her car.
The Beer No Sampler! The clean, mild, character of the beer makes it easy to step-up to pints of each. You'll also find an interesting and eclectic selection of domestics and importants
West Side Wheat -
A very light Wheat without being weak. A great session beer. They list it as a pizza-friendly beer, and I have to admit that sounded like a great idea. As Val put it, "Tastes like beer, how often can you say that." Reviewer's Rating: 4 - A decent beer. Slightly above average.
Golden Arm -
Be sure to have this Kölsch when you go. It's light body, low hop and mildly malty aroma make this an excellent session beer. Reviewer's Rating: 4 - A decent beer. Slightly above average.
Worryin' Ale -
Another good session beer. Moderately hopped with a clean after-taste. Reviewer's Rating: 3 - Equal to most macrobrews. Not too bad; nothing special.
Top Heavy Hefe-Weizen -
Unfiltered and served without a lemon. The banana really stands out in this refreshing beer. Again another great session beer. Val thought it would taste great with an orange slice. Reviewer's Rating: 3 - Equal to most macrobrews. Not too bad; nothing special.
Dolemite -
Dry-hopped for a little more kick, another good stand-out. Reviewer's Rating: 4 - A decent beer. Slightly above average.
Dysfunctionale -
HOPS! This beer stands out from the rest with it's over-whelming character. As Val said, "You can taste it before you drink it." If you prefer hoppy beers, be sure to make Piece a stop while in Chicago. Reviewer's Rating: 5 - Now this is beer. Would definitely drink again.
Prodigal Porter -
The roasted malt really accented this beer. A lighter Porter, while not being a light beer. Reviewer's Rating: 4 - A decent beer. Slightly above average.
Flat Iron Stout -
very warming... Reviewer's Rating: 3 - Equal to most macrobrews. Not too bad; nothing special.
Discussion with Brewmaster
He had already gone home for the evening.
The Atmosphere
Felt like what a pizza joint would be like in College, when I was in High School watching "A Different World," right down to the Christmas lights in the rafter. - If any of that makes sense. It was cool and easy going, and the patrons were a friendly bunch, especially William Kittrell (Reverend). While he works at Goose Island, it would seem that the Microbrewers of Chicago are a tight-nit bunch who get along very well. The music was as diverse as their beer offerings. Val phrased it as a trendy eye-glasses place, a subtly-hip pub.
Afterthoughts
All the beers were good, you could easily forget how much you have been drinking with how easy they go down. The Dysfunctionale is what really stood out and would bring me back.
